Hardy Chrysanthemums in Autumn
Hardy chrysanthemums come in diverse shades of gold, bronze, pink, red, purple, salmon, white and cream, with different varieties that flower in early, mid or late autumn. With a variety of flower forms, heights and habits, there’s a chrysanthemum to suit every sunny spot in the garden, with compact forms for containers and taller ones for beds and borders designed to extend the flowering season as late in the year as possible. All make excellent cut flowers. The chrysanthemum family comprises a handful of species of herbaceous perennials that, through centuries of breeding, have given rise to scores of hybrids with showy, daisy-like flowers. Both plants and flowers vary greatly in size, from Asian miniatures that fit into bonsai bowls to football-sized, Japanese exhibition hybrids.
