Bouts Violas

The dedication and expertise of nursery owners and gifted plant breeders never ceases to amaze me, and I was privileged last year to spend a couple of days at Wildegoose Nursery, home to Bouts Violas, with Jack Willgoss and Laura Crowe, who say: ‘We feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Nicola. Her enthusiasm for our collection of violas and the fabulous artistic flair with which she photographed them, has produced some truly beautiful images. We never ceased to be amazed at just how long she could work on a cup of tea and a marmite sandwich — so easily pleased! A truly lovely person to work with.’ (www.boutsviolas.co.uk)

Rosemary Alexander

‘Nicola is a superbly sensitive photographer with a true understanding of plants and how they grow. Her portraits of the bulbs in my garden capture their individual properties, such as foliage, flowers and stamens, showing their best features,’ says Rosemary Alexander, principal of the English Gardening School, and designer of her own beautiful garden at Sandhill Farmhouse, Sussex. John Massey

‘Nicola is always fun to have in the garden, she fits in as one of the family, and is very frost hardy!’ writes John Massey who has created a canal-side garden that miraculously manages to be beautiful in all four seasons. (www.ashwoodnurseries.com)

Chris Beardshaw

‘Nicola is thoughtful, considerate and has a great sense of humour which makes for an easy and fun shoot,’ says Chris Beardshaw. (www.chrisbeardshaw.com)
