Waterhouse Lane in August

A hairdresser owner has achieved a lovely balance between controlling plants and showing them off to best advantage. Over the last two decades, the owners have created a quiet space in the 25m x 10m rear plot. A back gate opens onto the white garden with a circular courtyard enclosed in pots of white flowers. An arch frames views of a gravel garden, whilst a narrow path leads to a boat standing upright amidst beachcombing finds. Beyond is a small open courtyard, whilst to the right is a covered seating area with sofas. From there, a boardwalk leads through exotic planting, back to the front door and collection of herbs. En route, there is salvaged gardenalia, and an acer overhangs a crystal clear pond and stream.
