Redston Road in August

By August, Brian Bowles' London plot brims over with colour from hanging baskets, annuals and roses arranged in long, boundary borders. Seemingly more spacious than its dimensions suggest, the clever design is based on diagonal lines which make the small, narrow space appear wider. A vertical structure in the form of a pergola hangs over a wooden deck, a private, quiet suntrap set apart from the house which is reached via stepping stones set into a pond filled with aquatic plants. Colourful glazed containers, a dining area, bench and terrace are linked by paths.
