Muswell Hill Garden

A London garden measuring just 23m x 10m which, despite being on heavy London clay, is packed with plants. The plot rises gently from the back of a three-storey Edwardian house, with views of nearby garden areas framed from within by graceful kitchen windows, creating living scenes that never fail to stop visitors in their tracks. Its owner, Judith Glover, is an award-winning garden designer and illustrator who favours country-style planting with a backbone of flowering shrubs and clipped evergreens for structure. ‘I don’t restrict myself to narrow colour palettes,’ she explains. ‘Instead, I use plants in harmonious groupings, paying particular attention to how each is placed in relation to its neighbour. I like dense planting that looks natural, and just on the right side of controlled chaos.’
