July Posie

A summer posie never fails to delight, and even gardeners with limited space can have a good selection of picking flowers by growing in pots, provided the containers are deep enough so that they do not dry out. Verbenas, dahlias and nicotiana thrive in pots, providing cut flowers for weeks on end. For an unbroken supply from summer into autumn, sow a few pots at regular intervals, adding to the compost heap once spent. To ensure as much variety as possible with a limited supply of flowers, sow pots in batches that are colour themed. For example, dahlias and asters in shades of pink and white create a soft pastel effect, whereas golden marigolds and rudbeckias are bright and quickly catch the eye.
