A Town Garden in June

Any suggestion that this 14m x 34m back garden is little more than a welcoming al fresco dining room would be to ignore the beautifully tended flower beds and vegetable parterre. Established in a quiet suburban setting, mature trees give the southwest-facing plot a secluded feel without casting undue shade. Careful design ensures that all parts of the garden see the sun at different times of the day. A special feature of the design is a rectangular 9.5m x 7m sunken vegetable parterre which lies on the far side of the terrace, a sunny, sheltered spot where fruit and vegetables thrive. Best of all, though, is being able to walk around the garden at any time of year and find something special to look at.
