St Ronans Road in August

Once garden designer Mike Hodges had completed his own award-winning garden, he transformed the postage stamp-sized plot of his nextdoor neighbours. Both gardens are south-west facing, and shaded by walls and buildings which limits what can be grown. They are also overlooked, so there was a balance to be struck between creating privacy whilst not blocking out light. There was little worth keeping in either, so he started with a blank canvas. The local town is a great place to live, people are very sociable, so both households wanted a garden for entertaining, an outdoor living space with the 'wow' factor both by day and night. Each contain a water feature, exotic architectural evergreen plants, furniture and night lighting.
