Highfields in March

The couple's home is situated on the outskirts of Skelmanthorpe, with countryside to one side, an urban setting to the other. Tantalising glimpses over hills and valleys are enjoyed from a raised terrace at the back of the house and from a recently installed summerhouse built in the highest corner of the garden. 'The other side of the hedge is a footpath, and we have to balance keeping our views against the need for privacy, so we can’t cut the hedge too low,' explains Julie. The plot is on a slight slope and from the outset, the couple decided not to do any levelling, choosing instead to work with the slope. 'We have designed the paths to follow the rise and fall of the slope'.
