Garden Lighting

A garden lit at night can take on a totally different character from its daytime guise. Lighting sets the mood — bold or soft, theatrical, romantic, welcoming or mysterious — by creating an interplay between shadow and light. Well thought-out lighting schemes can highlight or obscure, distract or draw attention, creating special ambience. By turning the night-time blackness of a window into an inviting al fresco extension, an interior immediately feels more spacious as the eye is drawn beyond the walls. And lights such as stone lanterns or steel candleholders are ornaments in their own right, creating lovely features in daylight hours. However, lighting is an art, and illuminating a garden needs much thought.
